Special Guests
This years event will be dedicated to 40 years of Beatle spirit! Our MC for the event will be Charles F. Rosenay!!!, renowned Beatles expert, with additional interviews by Beatles historian Matt Hurwitz. In addition, don't miss the facinating presentation by Dr. Lev!
Documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, along with his brother, David (1932-1987), pioneered the "direct cinema" style - non-fiction films which depict the drama of life as it unfolds, without scripts or narration. Among their first music-related credits was "What's Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A.," recently reissued on DVD by Apple/Capitol as "The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit." The film chronicles The Fabs' historic first visit to America in February 1964, the Maysles accompanying them from airport to hotel to Ed Sullivan to the Washington Coliseum, every step of the way.
Their 1970 film, "Gimme Shelter," following The Rolling Stones' fateful concert at Altamont Speedway, is recognized as a rock and roll classic. Other award-winning films have followed over the years, including "Lalee's Kin: The Legacy of Cotton" (2000), "Letting Go: A Hospice Journey" (1996) and "Conversations with The Rolling Stones" (1994). Maysles continued his working relationship with Paul McCartney in 2001, filming the former Beatle during his October visit to New York for The Concert for New York City, a film as yet unreleased. He is currently at work on "The Jew On Trial" and "Trains," two new documentaries.
Tom Wilkes has designed some of the most memorable of Beatles solo album covers, particularly those of George Harrison in his Apple years. His first encounter with The Fabs was in 1967 when Tom was the art director for the legendary Monterey Pop Festival, when all four Beatles contributed to a single piece of art - the only time that was ever done - when they created a poster to celebrate the event. Tom will have reproductions of that rare poster at Beatlefair.
In 1970, he created the unforgettable cover for George's "All Things Must Pass," and a year later, the incredible images and package for "The Concert for Bangla Desh." He went on to design the sleeves for "Living in the Material World" and "Dark Horse" for Harrison, as well as Ringo's Rhino Records best-of release, "Starr Struck" in 1988. Wilkes also designed a pair of albums every Beatles fan in the 1970s-thru-90s had in their collections, "The Beatles 1962-1966" and "The Beatles 1967-1970" - the well known "Red" and "Blue" greatest hits albums," released in April 1973.
Performers
Making his first appearance at Beatle Fair is Liverpool Pop Star Billy J. Kramer (Bad To Me, I'll Keep You Satisfied, Do You Want To Know A Secret, I'll Be On My Way, From A Window, I Call Your Name, Little Children and more!). Beatlefair is also proud to present Gordon Waller, of Peter & Gordon (A World Without Love, True Love Ways, Lady Godiva, I Go To Pieces and more!), Tony Sheridan (My Bonnie, The Saints, Sweet Georgia Brown, Let's Dance and more!) and Apple Recording artist Jackie Lomax (George Harrison wrote, produced and performed on Jackie's Apple single "Sour Milk Sea"). 38 DAYS has arrived! That's the title of English singer/song writer Dave Humphries
new EP. This is Dave's 3rd CD, and it comes with a special surprise. 38 DAYS features Tony Sheridan on 2 of the tracks. It seems appropriate that this beautiful and soulful CD should be released this year because it is the 40th anniversary of The Beatles arrival in America. The EP is original and new. Dave and his Shooting the Breeze Band will also be appearing at Beatlefair this year.
Don't miss the Beatles Marketplace and a huge memorabilia exhibit. Beatle videos and cartoons will be available for family viewing, and for the first time ever, John & Yoko's infamous Amsterdam Bed-In for Peace will be recreated BOTH Saturday and Sunday by actor/musician Tim Biancalana, who will also be discussing his new book THE VILLAGE IDIOM!
The public is invited. There will be door prize giveaways and more surprises on the day of the event. The
benefiting charity this year will be WinABC (Women's Information Network Against Breast Cancer).
